Travelling Song

The sun and the sky touched my forehead.

“Open the wall,”

They said to me. “A window.”

With chisel and hammer I complied.

“One window is loneliness.

Only one view,” they said,

“Only one entrance.”

My house became infirm.

“Why need you a house?

We are the sun. We are the sky.

With us you may roam

In a large home.”

Into the sun I went,

Into the rain and the sky;

And when the snow came down

I could only cry.

Tears last a moment.

The sun will always shine.

There is no end to wandering

Beneath the silent sky.
